Impressive Martin Eric Clapton model
Played a couple of Martin's today, briefly. Both were OO models (if I remember correctly): a OO-21 and an EC OO, or was it OOO. Liked the response and smooth sound of the OO21 then I picked up the EC. Wow. Loved the neck. the sound was-well the single word for the sound is bluesy. Really, that's the word! A few more words: warm, round, clear, responsive and loud for a small body guitar. And the neck was thick enough and comfortable.
Both were expensive the 00-21 was discounted deep to $1200. The EC was like over $2200 and shopworn. Back to the cheapo Yamaha for now, but the EC impressed me enough to consider selling some gear and to start saving up... Mik

Martin EC model
I've played 6 different EC models at various Guitar Centers and they all sounded....well.....flat. They all had pretty bad strings on them, so I'm sure that factored into the equation. Played another at a local small store last week and it sounded beautiful. I'm partial to the O body size anyway.

Brad,
Flat? 6 different EC models sounded flat? Surprised, so many. Nothing flat about the EC I played (at a GC), and it looked as though it had endured a lot of handling. Mik

Gotta agree on the ECs I've played, none impressed me, but I recognize strings are a factor and each acoustic guitar of the same model will sound different. I guess I just haven't found an EC I lke yet.
I played an OM28V that knocked me out it sounded so good. Similar to the EC model except it's a longer scale (and cheaper too!) |

If...
You are serious about purchasing a high end guitar..(to me over $499) I don't think it is too much to ask to try it with new strings. I would insist on it with something like a EC.
