Epi Masterbilt AJ-500M or AJ-500R?

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone had compared these two Epi Masterbilt models. They are in my price range but I don't have a local music store that carries them. I was curious as to which one sounded better. I fingerpick about 50% of the time. Classic and contemporary rock. Also what is the difference in sound between the AJ's and the DR's? Is it just a volume difference? Thanks.

I used to own the DR500R and now have the DR500M. They both sound good so it is really a matter of personal taste. I was a bit disappointed that they weren't cannons but I think they need to age a few years for that to occur. I have an Ovation that was the same way the first 5 years.

The AJs I have played were in the Guitar Center and they are louder than the DRs and I wish I bought it instead. I guess they suit my taste better. I believe the M is about a $100 less than the R so that may be a factor for you. Both are nice to play and loud and a good choice. Check out Harmony Central for reviews and then decide.

There's no real way to answer that for you, as everyone has their idea of what's "better." If you're a finger picker, you may find that the smaller bodied EF model sounds a little better. Though not as loud, the EF model sounds a little fuller, while the dreads sound a little drier and more percussive.
