I've been playing the heck out of my girlfriend's Cigano GJ15 (grande bouche gypsy jazz guitar) until I get my Gitane Jorgenson. These guitars FINALLY make sense to me.
![]() When set up properly and played with the right pick (3.5 mm MINIMUM - these are thick!), you get that wonderful cross between a jazz archtop and a classical guitar. I am having an absolute blast with this, and have barely touched my Esquire, although I did noodle with it this morning.

Larrivee L-03 RE and a Tele'coustic. Thje Larrivee is fresh from a setup and is playing better than ever. The Tele'coustic is just a fun thing to play. A great open mic beater... I'lll probably set it up for slide.

For some reason, I keep coming back to the cheapest, should be crappiest acoutic I've owned, an Ibanez AEL-20. I've played others of the same model that sucked but this one is awesome. I bought it barely used and the guy either got lucky or did some great set up work on it. It plays like butter and sounds great. I sold several other high-end guitars just because they were "OK" but the money I got from selling them meant more to me than the guitars did. The only pic I have of it is in the rack: (disregard the pink bass
![]() But this is what it looks like:

How old is that Yamaha? I learned playing on one like this, and I guess the one we have is about 30 years old. It doesn't have the inlays on the neck and on the headstock, but apart from that it's the same. Trying to find out the model for a long time, so I'd appreciate if you could help! I play a German "Baton Rouge" acoustic, I like the sound of it, even though I wanna try on the strings a little bit. See Picture. It's sort of a simple design, not a lot on the neck, no pickguard. But I love that eagle on the 12th fret!! The finish is pretty, it's rosewood I think. Mahogany on the sides. Or the other way around. Solid body guitar, and it was at about 450$ (300 €uro). My first own guitar!

Recording King
I've been playing my Recording King Classic RD-227 (vintage Martin knock-off) and enjoying the heck out of it.
Not mine, but the exact same model.

Hey Esquire92. That Yamaha used to belong to my dad. He got it new from the Yamaha importers here in the UK in about '79.
It's a CJ - 838S. I've seen a few over the years and they all play blindin'. Most don't seem to have the inlays so I'm not sure if it makes it a different model or not. I had it refretted a few years back as it had been my dads and then my regular gigging guitar for so long. Still the loudest acoustic I've ever played. |

Thanks milospilo,
I guess I have a real vintage guitar here ;-) And yes, agreed, they are very loud, and they are made for centuries! Thanks a lot!

My main acoustic is a Tama I got in '73/74. Martin knockoff, but always sounded great to me and still does. Payed about $250 for it back in the day. Had a friend that had a D-45 and compared the sound and it was pretty close. The Martin was way more soft and subtle, where the Tama was big on the bass response and much louder overall. Still love this guitar.
Have it set up with heavy phosophor-bronze D'Addarios, tuned down 1 step. Neck is straight as a laser beam. Installed a fishman on it a while back but can't say I'm pleased with the sound through an amp. Also bought an '03 Hummingbird recently, since the neck is almost identical and it doesn't have the bass response of the Tama which helps in certain selections. Seems the highs are better represented which is cool when I do fingerpicking. This is also tuned down 1 step, but I use med phosphor-bronze on this since the action is a bit higher. Makes me bite in a little more. Not a bad thing. Don't do the digital thing or I'd post pics.

Don't play much acoustic, but I have a old (mid '60s) Framus flat top parlor with a arched BACK, a bolt on neck & a trapese tailpiece..It had mile high action when I got it, but I shimmed the neck like a Fender & now it's fine..sounds like a reso when you strum back behind the soundhole, & has a nice (if small) sound up by the neck.
I also have a' 70s Yamaha classical, that I should play more.... |

thanks Colt! I feel so lucky to have found the 1933. This model has a lot of history - It was only made for about 1 year and there were around 500 made total. It is estimated that there are only about 100 or so that survived the past 75 years.

The latest addition to the mudbean arsenal: 1997 Taylor 410CE
![]() I think a Taylor is the perfect match for a Martin to round out an acoustic guitar collection: The boom of the Martin complements the tight midrange tone of the Taylor. mud

I bought my first Martin about three weeks ago - a 000-42 Marquis that was on sale at about 60% off. It's a real shame having to wear that one in ...
I still pick up my Maton (oz brand) CW80 too but mostly for slide. Matons are kind of between Seagull and Taylor for a US reference. |

Thanks for asking!
My main squeeze is my Takamine EF 340SBG all-solid dreadnought, but I rotate through the rest of my Tak acoustics: an old F-400S 12 string, a sweet C-140SH classical, and a beat-up F-340S I keep at school. I have an F-349 I let my students play. I gave my old F-360 to a friend who wants to learn the guitar, a C-132S to one of my daughters, and a C-128 to my other daughter.
My only electric right now is a Takamine, too, a GX-200T (my avatar, until my Tele is ready.) I guess that's enough Takamines now, much as I love them, and enough acoustics. My next guitar is a mahogany Tele project. My son is going to make the body, and I'm ordering the neck tomorrow. Someday I hope to learn to play.

My beater is a Yamaha FG-401...it goes everywhere with me...it takes a beating and keeps on ticking. I have gone through two of them in 25 years.
But when I want get my tone...the J-45 is it.
