I play a Japanese copy of a Martin D18, same x bracing, same everything pretty much. I always buy them when they come up on ebay so I'll have enough to last me the rest of my life.
The only mod I've ever done is to put on a bone nut and ivory saddle. Of course I only have one set of those made so far, someday I'll get around to making more. I've never electrified one but plan to.

A '73 Martin D18 that I bought new. She gets sweeter every day. I did pick up a Jay Turser cutaway acoustic that I enjoy using as a travel guitar.

My Martin OM16GT and Larrivee L03R are tied for most play time. I play my Martin D-15 when I'm in a dread mood.
I have a Rainsong AWS1000 (which is another OM) that is the only guitar that I take out of the house in winter.....it's 0 degrees outside right now with no humidity at all. Wisconsin! John

I've got a Taylor 310 that I play probably 70% of the time. I'm definitely more of an acoustic guy. I'm seriously gassing for a new acoustic; maybe a martin om or a small bodied guild or a j-45

I'm all about vintage crap...emphasis on the "Crap". I'm just sane enough to admit I'm a rather eccentric person, so I like eccentric and unusual instruments. I love my teles to death, but my dream guitar is a Silvertone Jupiter, if that says anything.
I normally play some no name/off brand 3/4 acoustic from the very early 70s, that was handed down from my grandmother...she can't remember the exact year. I could probably google something and figure it out, but I can never remember. I'm known pull out a big ugly blue Johnson acoustic from time to time for nostalgia. It was the first "Decent" acoustic I owned...and "decent" is stretching the term obviously. If I can remember I'll post pictures of the oddball acoustic I normally play. |

Just playing again after a month+ hunting. Rotating between a beat-up '53 LG-2, a newly acquired "player" '61 J-50, a beat-up '52 J-45, & AJ RI. Got all compulsive w. countless bridge/relief/bridge pin/string changes to the J-50 just for kicks. Concluded, as always, that I should just play my LG-2 (small, beat, very very punchy & cutting) and AJ RI (does everything). But I'm a sick man.
Haven't played my Tele near enough since my wife moved my little Silvertone amp outta the living room while I was hunting. I plan on moving the amp back after the holidays. She is a very understanding woman. |

The acoustic I have that I play the most is a Washburn OG-2N, not one of the best but I set it up to suit me aand it plays very well now. I have a martin D-18 but still prefer to play the Washburn.

This one mainly. In Open G with a heavy brass slide or a custom slide made from a wine bottle
![]() I also have this one up in the bedroom. A world weary, but very nice sounding Simon & Patrick, which spends most of its time in DADGAD tuning.

Guild D-25, sunburst. A beauty. My first real guitar actually. Time marches on.

While my late 70's Larrivee continues to inspire, I find most of my acoustic playing these days is with an older Seagull S-6 Folk. I dig the small body, wide neck and how the cedar top responds to subtle fingerpicking. Surprising amount of volume and rich tone from this little wonder.

Hate to say it but my 1960 Gibson J-200 spends more time in the case than my 1956 Gibson SJ

My Mom would give me the green stanps she got from the grocery store and I would paste 'em in books till I had a whole lot filled up. Can't for the life of me remember what the heck I redeemed them for but I betcha it was something great.

Just got this baby, and am completely inspired everytime I pick it up. It's my first gypsy Jazz guitar and I'm loving it.

My Taylor Grand Concert. It is a 30th anniversary. This was the first year they did short scale, open headstock. Now this is standard. Mine is cedar/mahogany. I have gone around the world on acoustics and this one suits me better than any other I have owned. Anybody want to buy a Dana B?

] Used to play a Sears Silvertone in the early 70's then a Sigma 6 and 12 string after that til '92. Now it's a 1969 Martin D-12-20 sometimes and a 2003 Taylor 12 Jumbo the most, got Blend pick-ups for both. So as you can see whatever I caught has gptten worse!

A neck reset is when you take the neck off of a guitar and set it in at the proper angle. Acoustic guitars are mostly under-engineered and are not far away from self destructing. If they are braced strongly enough to keep this from happening, then the sound is usually damped too much and they don't sound very good. There are some exceptions, of course, old Guilds being one of them. They're built like tanks and weigh 50% more than a comparable Martin, but they still sound pretty good. The tension of the strings over long periods of time will do nasty things like pull the neck up too far, pull the bridge off the top, make the top bow upwards... That's why it's important to take care of them. Most acoustics and archtops will need a neck reset at some point in their lives. My #1 acoustic these days is my "new" Epi EF-500R. I believe they're made in the same factory as the Guild GAD series, and it's a really nice guitar. It's not just a nice guitar for the money. It's a nice guitar. Little tweaks here and there are improving the tone significantly. It makes me lust after an OM-28V a lot less.

I've put all of my acoustics back in their cases to protect them from the winter since I got the Gretsch Showdown. I think today I'll be restringing our '82 Washburn Woodstock and keeping it out for a while, though. It's such a nice guitar, and I might enjoy monkeying around with it on my new amp.
