Acoustic Bass Recommendation

Guys:
I posted this on the bass page, too, but I'm looking to buy an acoustic bass. Does anyone have a good recommendation? Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Takamine has two models one is priced around $500
range(it was last year when I bought it for my son , I can't remember the exact price). It is acoustic/electric and it plays and sounds great. The wood grain on the back looks like a big money guitar.THe other model they offer is close to $4000 range. You should be able to find out more at your local dealer or the web dealers.

Acoustic acoustic or electric acoustic?

I'veheard several great sounding acoustic basses. The Tacoma ThunderCheif comes to mind. Also heard a fantasic Alvarez. The guy from The violent Femmes used a big Martin didn't he? Or was it a Guild? I always assumed that the ones with the larger bodies would have the deepest sound, but I recently heard one(sorry ,I don't remeber the brand)that was easily a third smaller that had just absolutly beautiful sound. So don't assume anything ,try them all.
But the one I bought was the Godin A4.The acoustic tone is not that great ,but when its plugged into the PA it just blows the others away.Works just as well through a bass amp. I think it probably gets more volume with less trouble too. If your nor familiar with it ,it looks like a Telecaster.Thinline, hollow, but no sound hole. Cedar top.I'm convinced its the cedar that makes the magic.
We(my bass player and I;I make him use the Godin when he works with me)put Thomastik Enfeld flats on it.Gets rid of the finger mice, allows long smooth fretboard slides, almost gets a fretless sound when you want it too.Very warm and woody .I play a Godin A6 guitar and sometimes its hard to tell where I stop and the bass starts .Its a very integreted sound.
