'70's Guild pickguards
I am hoping that someone here is a follower of Guild guitars. I just bought a '73 F50R and a '74 F212XL. The pickguards are a bit odd to me. Both guitars have mirror image 'That Girl' type pickguards a la the Gibson Everly Bros. guitars from the '60's. I have never seen another Guild with this type of pickguard. How about ya'll? Has anyone seen this 'Marlo Thomas' treatment on Guild guitars?

Yes.It was occasionally done special order.
Ritchie Havens absolutely needed 2 p.g.'s and Bonnie Raitt is another that comes to mind.Yours might just have left the factory that way for no particular reason...Guild had a history of doing things like that. BTW nice model choices. The f212xl is a favorite of mine. |

Thanks, Teletwang. The F50R pickguards look factory. The bass side guard on the 12-string is bubbled up....perhaps it lifted and someone made a poor choice of glues. Sigment and other similar glues will ruin the thin celluloid material. That looks like what has been done. Without some clue that Guild did suchpickguard treatments at times, I had thought that maybe the original owner had ordered two 'mirror image' pickguards, glued one on the 12 with improper glue, and used a proper glue on the F50R after learning his lesson the hardway. Now, with your feedback, I am thinking that it was an error during a repair.
Thanks for the feedback. |
