Has anyone played either the d or a syle Baden guitars?
Im very interested in one and have no dealers around my area. I really like the d style, but the a looks like it would be nice as well. |

It's not to terribly shy of a year since this post, but I was just in Strait Music in Austin today and saw the Baden acoustics. I played on a few different A style Badens and they all sounded really good to me, with the differences in wood for back and sides making the normal tonal differences. All three (rosewood, mahogany, and maple) back and sides sounded really good to me. The neck is pretty comfortable. The action could use a little more work, but was playable as is. I'm very interested in getting one now.
Has anyone tried one out lately? They didn't have one with a pickup, so I couldn't plug one in. |

They always have Badens at Mark's Guitars in Wausau WI.
They have a brighter top end than a Martin but they are not as bright as a Taylor. They have a warm full bottom. They sound like a warmed up Taylor. The tone is a more of a modern acoustic sound but it still has nice bass. When you play fingerstyle you can hear all the strings at nearly equal volume. I like the way curve between the bouts is subtle on the dreads. They look cool and sound good. Cool guitar... John

I played some demos at the Arlington, TX Guitar Show last fall. Fell in love with them...especially with the Fishman Aura setup. Almost pulled the trigger...but didn't. In the bluegrass world, I play a killer Martin SPD16R...that puts many a 28 and others to shame. However, I also play some open mics and obviously, a Tele in a country rock band. There is an occasion to play acoustic from time to time...and I thought a Baden would be the ticket. On occasion, I do seem them on ebay and better prices...
I consider them a fine instrument... |
