Weissenborn Repair

Well, got a Style 1 Weissenborn...for a pretty good deal.

Bad news is she's got two bad top cracks and some other maladies.

Anyone know an acoustic repairman who specializes in this type of instrument? I just want to get it into playing shape, doesn thave to look great.

PS I live in North Jersey, work in Rockland.

Regards

David, congratulations on the find. I have a near mint STyle 3. Ain't they wonderful? Weissenborns have the sweetest tone of any lap steel that I have heard.
As for the repair, New Jersey is a long way from Texas or I would volunteer myself for the job. Considering your location, why not give Stan at Mandolin Bros on Staten Island, NY a call and seek his advice on a good repairperson for that job. That thin body could call for some serious 'surgery' in order to repair the damage...depending on the location and extent of the cracks. IMO, one would want the repair done as well, both structurally and cosmetically, as possible. that instrument has some value, and a poor repair would only detract from the value. I would rather buy an instrument in need of repair than one that has substandard repairs done to it.
