Martin LXM soundhole pickup
Does anyone have any experience with a soundhole pickup for the LXM? The soundhole is something like 3 1/4 or 3 1/2 inches and just too small for a standard pickup. Any suggestions? I'd like to avoid a piezo but it's interesting that the saddle slot has a 'premolded' drill point to install one (ala' LXME).
That little LXM will never stand up to your usual Belchfire 500 Dreadnought but for it's size it sounds amazing.

I've been reading about this, the Mi-Si Acoustic Duo. Looks cool and looks like it would fit w/ no issues.

I am all ears. I'd love to have a pickup on my LXK-2. Actually I'd love to have a sort of an electric pickup on it. Like Danelectro or DeArmond style.
Though my main grip is that the guitar sounds best with 13s and plays a lot easier with 12s. And that it needs new strings (my A&L Ami sounds great with old ones or new, doesn't mind either way).

Interesting pickup, especially the '60 second charge' part. Only down side is it's about 70% of the cost of the guitar!

if you decide to go down the piezo route like I did, you will need the "narrow" format fishman pickup (if you decide to go for a fishman) I had this confirmed by Martin and Fishman via email. I went for the Matrix Infinity, personally. Did a test run on another guitar the other day which went very well, apart from I sanded the saddle too much, DOH! Not too much of an issue as it is an excuse to get a compensated one like on the Martin. The only issue I can see with the Martix Infinity is the fixing of the tone and volume controls as the x brace is is a different location to a stanard guitar, but there is a bracket that allows fixing to a clasical guitar included in the box that looks like it will just do the trick! in fact it is the LXK2 that I have, I am REALLY impressed with "The Gnome" great sound and playability. there was a few rough edges on the fretboard and nut, nothing a little careful rub with some sand paper did not fix. at this price I was MORE than happy with the result. once I have fitted the pickup I can give you an update as to how it went / sounds if you like Cheers BMF |
