Today's Stupid Deal of the Day: Fishman Neo-D

I don't want to be a shill for MF, but the Stupid Deal of the Day is the Fishman Neo-D soundhole pickup for $39.99! I have one in my Takamine 12-string and think it's fabulous. It's shimmery and balanced across all strings (a problem I've had with some soundhole pickups).

It is a passive single-coil. This gives it it's bright character, but it can also pick up 60-cycle hum from dimmers. Still, I'm keeping mine! If you've been thinking about trying out a soundhole pickup, I recommend this one (even at full price).

I ordered one before seeing your post. I've needed one for my Alvarez 12 string, and I was considering buying this one at full pop at Guitar Center until I saw the Stupid Deal this morning. I don't think I've ever heard a bad Fishman product.

Question for you...Does the cable stay out of the way? I'm always a little nervous about that with these types of pickups.

Well, to answer my own question, the cable is a little bit in the way. It's not terrible, and I guess I can live with it, but the cable exits the bottom of the pickup and sticks up a bit exiting the soundhole. At 10', the attached cable is either too short or too long. However, initial tests indicate that the sound is excellent, so I'll deal with the minor issues. It did not thin out the sound of the 12 string, which as we all know can come off as brittle anyway. Overall, pretty pleased.

It just came up again, but this time at $29! I jumped on it. Should have bought a second one for a buddy.

Oh, well. At 39, a great deal. At 29, a steal.
