Acoustic / Electric string advice...
Hi all;
I just bought a Takamine 2003 limited edition and would like to pick some pickers brains as to what strings you are using for this type guit. It's been many years since I seriously played acoustic so I'm not up on the various nuances of current acoustic string selection but here are just a few parameters: I'd like to go from the present 12 - 54 set I've got to something more moderate for my old digits such as 11 - 47/48 or thereabouts. The guit will almost always be amped so I'm not worried about acoustic volume. The cleaner and brighter the better - that's the most important point in the sound I'm after. Still want to have that rich wooden acoustic tone but with more ease of playing - yes, that's right, I want to have my cake and eat it too... Any thoughts will be much appreciated. Yer old buddy Bob |

Bob,
I gig 2/3 nights a week with acoutics, all have internal pups in them. As much as I love the tone of 12's, my fingers just can't handle doing the stuff I do acoustically. I play a variety of music from trad. country to modern rock. After about 2 sets with 12's, my fingers are very sore & I can't bend them as easy either. Where I live, 11's are not the easiest to find so I order mine from MF. I use D'Addario's, 11-52. Good luck! OP

Yup.......D'addario's are real nice, and easy to find. Last well, too....
I'm absolutely sold, however, on Elixer Nanowebs.....very slightly duller on first installing them, but they stay fresh FOREVER. I started using them when I was playing summers outside at the Jersey shore.....I could barely get through 3 gigs with regular strings. These Elixers get me through a month, at least, of 7-9 gigs a week!!! Now, THAT's a bargain, to me..... -jim |

Love D'Adderios on my electric guitars but I always put Elixir Nano's on my 3 acoustics. My fingers are still in good shape so I use the 12-54's and love the way they last! When you have 3 acoustic guitars to change strings on, the longer the better!

Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze are a gigging acoustic guitar player's best friend, IMO.
Tone is very similar to D'Addario PB's (which I played for 30 years) but less string noise, comfy on the fingers, they last weeks/months and hold their tone. I use Med's on one guitar and Lights on another. Love 'em!
