You're quite right; I don't think anyone in Boston was high on the Drew or Lugo signings...but I don't see either of them going anywhere next year...
Matsuzaka, however, performed admirably considering the cultural shift and change in leagues. 200+ innings pitched, 200+ strikeouts, 15 wins (a few more would have been had if the bats had been awake in some games...his ERA was just over 3 during his "slump"). I'll take it, for a third starter - lets see how he fares next year. We're hoping he settles in, like Mr. Beckett.
But I'll agree with your larger point, about folks being bothered by the payroll. But if you want to see some vitriolic hate speech about the Sox ownership, you have to look no further than Sox fans themselves (
www.sonsofsamhorn.net). Believe it or not, when it comes to hatin' on the Sox, no region comes even close to us in Massachusetts!
