I have heard that because of the design, they cannot be rewound, at least not economically

. If you look at the pup, the coils are side by side, so you'd probably have to take 1 coil off to rewind the other, if thats even possible. Its probably cheaper to just buy another. I guess thats one benefit of a stacked coil design, that they could be more easily rewound if necessary.
