This is another perfect example of a Fender "relic"...beat the &*$% out of it and scrape it up with sandpaper but leave the back of the neck flawless aside from some additional sandpaper finish removal. Something tells me Joe probably beat up the neck of his guitar a little more than that
Rule #1 at the Fender CS: "Though shalt not relic thy back of neck".
