I like the X boxes. I have a D12X1 (12 string) and a 000CXE. The stratabond necks play like lightening. Stratabond is real wood fused with polymer and then CNC shaped. It feels like wood but it's tough as the Graphite neck on a Rainsong. My 12 string holds a setup through dry WI winter and humid WI summer. It's bulletproof. The new X boxes have Morado fretboards (Bolivian Rosewood) rather than the old Micarta material).
My nephew has a DX1RE and he loves it...he is in a coffe shop acoustic duo. The thing sounds great through his PA or acoustically.
They have the Martin Growl despite the HPL back and sides.....remenber that 85% of the tone comes from the top.

My D12X1 cost $499 from Elderly with free shipping and set up. I paid $70 for a 300 series Martin case and 115 for a Fishman Passixe pickup installed.
Just remember that the top is solid spruce; you have to humidify the case in winter or you'll have trouble ith the top sinking.
Acoustic Guitar magazine did a "Best Bets under $1000" aricle about a year and a half ago...the DX1 and the Taylor 110 were the big winners. The article reviewed guitars that had a list price under $1000. It was a great read.

If you call Elderly on the phone, I bet they'll quote you $449. Great people. I bought my OM16GT, D12x1 and two PRS guitars from them. You could probably get a OOOX1 that was never on the showroom floor. They have a huge inventory.
