If you're not in a hurry and are contemplating the Vox AD30VT, you may want to wait until the new XL version becomes available and try that as well.
It's supposed to have more high gain, if you're into that, and it will have a 12" speaker.
It could also be that the price of the "old" version will drop when the new one hits the stores.
And, as for the grille thing, to me it's more important that the amp sounds good than how it looks.
I made a mistake a while back and bought an SS combo with nice retro look. It sounded awful!
Now I have an all tube Laney VC30, that sounds great. However, it doesn't look great, mainly due to a big ugly logo.
