Hubert Sumlin uses em too.
The KR-12 doesn't look very tweed... Celestion G12H-30 speakers, EL34 power tubes, multiple gain stages (cascaded?), and a Master Volume. Looks more British flavored.
I'm not talking trash at all, I love tweed era Fenders and I build them for myself quite often... and I also love Brit-flavored amps!
I'd like to try one of them K-12's out... I'd really love to try out Hubert's model, the HS-M12 (30watt 6L6) too. Their multigain input concepts are interesting.
