maestrovert on this question.
As far as SS that are very clean so you can hear your pedals... maybe you'd want to stay away from ones that have "Transtube" or tube emulation circuitry... then again, I don't know why anyone would want a SS amp or an amp that doesn't sound tube for guitar (I can see maybe for bass, acoustic instruments, and/or pedal steel).
Some folks actually prefer SS, so I just don't understand it I guess... although my Crate Powerblock sounds pretty damn good and for 5 lbs it'll be my backup amp 100% of the time - so do what makes YOU happy :)
