I gor real long sustaining notes from my 50's Classic when I took out the neck pup and put a 1953 Fender Champion lap steel pickup in it. It would sustain around 65-70 secs on the big E string a little less on the plain strings.
It was so alive and harmonicly rich and sustained forever I had to slightly change my playing style cause the bad notes rang out so long I had to mute alot more.
