Maybe, fjohn...
like the old cliche says, "the truth shall set you free."
It's good thing you owned up to the facts...better late than never.
When I was a kid and tried (often) to lie my way out of trouble, my mother would tell me, "you tell one lie, then you have to tell another lie, and another, and after a while you just don't know what's even true anymore."
She would also say "Always tell the truth...that way you won't have to remember what you said."
if you have a lemon, make lemonade. maybe by coming clean, you can be relieved of the burden of this lie you've been carrying around for so long.
Perhaps you should not be so hard on yourself. It was not right what you did, but you certainly are not the first person to do something like this.
We had a poster here a few years ago that appropriated another musician's Tele playing and tried to pass it off as his own playing. He came clean, apologized and many people on the board were more than willing to forgive him for his actions, and I think this board is representative of the good, fair-minded side of people.
I might add there are many people on this planet who have done far worse things than you.
I believe we can all find redemption when we admit we are/were wrong and
resolve to do right from then on. So I hope the truth WILL set you free.
