I recently bought a tribute ASAT special as a back-up to my MIM tele. For about the price of a new MIM standard (at least, here in Maritime Canada), this thing has a two piece ash body, beautiful transparent honey blonde finish, and solid, heavy hardware. Everything about the guitar says 'quality' and I chose is because of how it compared (and contrasted) with the standard teles a tried.
And my wife thinks its pretty too. She didn't say anything about the headstock.
It's a very versitile guitar with sensitive controls that significantly alter the tone of the pickups, and I play it all the time. No need for any mods whatsoever (that's a real bonus for clumsy me!) and imo it proves that Leo's contributions to the world of affordable guitars continued after the 1950s.
