While in the Mandala and playing regularly around town, he was instrumental in creating something that was called the Toronto Sound, an R&B/soul vibe that influenced everyone from Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks to John Kay and The Sparrows (read: Steppenwolf). It may seem a bit passe now, but in the 60s, the sound was very distinctive.
