Lighten up and take a joke... it took me a long time to type in all of those dollar signs drunk at 1am. You could've at least cracked a smile.
I've spent good hard money on pickups and it's been worth every penny, I've ALSO spent $15 and been very surprised and happy...
I don't consider myself the "final say" on tone... except to myself.
But, if someone got what they wanted out of a $50 pickup I'm not going to condescendingly insult them.
But yes, the parts and "expertise" that goes into a pickup is ridiculous
when it's $250. Really, pickup making is not that mystical/magical... it's not. With the few pieces of equipment and parts we could all be making pickups just as well.
The only thing I could imagine causing this price is the sheer amount of time it takes a lone guy to wind a pickup as opposed to a factory.

Spend the extra time and get EXACTLY what you want, CUSTOMWOUND. You can make dozens of them! Experiment with AlNiCo II, III, or V magents. Enamel wire, gauges, etc.
Regardless, it's NOT rocket science. And inflated prices is not funny...
But at least try to see where I was coming from - everyone has different taste/opinions.
Try not to take offense, and maybe even laugh a little.
