Thanks everyone! I was totally blown away by the grain. But to be honest before I put the wax on it didn't really jump out and say hello.
I was sceptical about applying the wax because I didn't want to add too much weight. But it really doesn't feel like it added that much. I have not weighed either guitar yet but I will today and post the results. They are very light and I think the 3 pickup sugar pine is lightest.

Pick guard: I originally bought a Wooden Garden maple one. It was pretty nice but the grain runs diagonally. I thought that it appeared to distract the guitars grain a bit.
I will put a few pics up of the different guards and what they would look like on the new Piner. I will also put a couple of samples up for you guys to hear.
