Look for a CD called "Rockabilly Riot." Not the recent one by Brian Setzer, but the older compilation. It's got Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Gene Vincent, etc. That CD gives a great overview of some of the different sounds associated with rockabilly. One thing not represented there would be Sun-era Johnny Cash.
I've been on a big rockabilly kick for about a year now. For me the thing that finally made the alternating bass stuff click was learning Elvis's "That's All Right" and then practicing it over and over. Now I throw that stuff into almost everything I play.
I play my Tele or Gretsch into a Danelectro Dan-Echo and then into my silverface Twin. Occasionally I'll kick in a little Boss Blues Driver for a little more edge.
