If Marshalls are so unreliable then why are they so popular.
I'm not talking about the little practice jobs or the fancy hand wired ones but the run of the mill gigging combo amps. They're not cheap, so if they didn't keep working they wouldn't use them.
As for the Marshall's distortion, sure they can do that, but they can also give one of the cleanest of clean sounds you can get. Go to practically any gig over here and there will be a Marshall of some descript on stage.
The Vox AC30 otoh has a long history of being unreliable, and we rarely see them in use.
I'm always confused when left pondians refer to "British tone" because I don't know what that is. The Shadows? DC5? Pretty Things? Kinks? Small Faces? Jimi Hendrix? Procol Harem? Nice? Hawkwind?
Perhaps you can cite some examples of the music you call "Brit tone"?
