I had thought of that , just planning on taking the speakers out of the equation. There are things that can go wrong with a speaker even though it is not actually blown. For example if there has been a recone done it is possible ( But unlikely ) that the voice coil has become partially detatched from the cone. This would make a nasty farty noise most of the time.
