It's really easy to do... if it's something you care to bother with. The hardest part is just deciding that's the kind of thing that you can do yourself. The most expensive part is when you decide you don't want to.

Usually the people who are asking how hard this kind of thing is are the people who probably haven't picked up a tool in their lives - but you gotta start somewhere!

With a basic Craftsman tool kit and a Haynes book, you've pretty much covered the necessities - and once you invest in that, you'll be on your way to saving yourself hassles with towing, time without your car, shop rates, and 100% or more markups on the parts.
