Depends on what fish are in the pond, but poppers are my favorite if there's any smallmouth bass in there. I've also had a ton of luck using crickets for bass. Spiders have always been great for panfish. Even caught a larger catfish near the bank on a spider one time.
I've got a few minow-looking things that are weighted and are supposed to be great for crappie, but fishing with dry-flys is so much more fun than fishing under the water.
If I can, I'll try to cast under a tree branch where it might naturally fall in, but usually will just cast into the middle of the pond, and then give it kind of a swimming motion as I reel it in closer to the bank.
Fishing the streams for trout is amazingly relaxing, but its hard to have more fun than fly fishing a pond.
