Your local Craigslist, classifieds and Estate Sales are great to keep your eyes on. You can save a lot and if you're a handy guy already you can make much of what you'd spend a ton for at a specialty outfit like Stew Mac. For instance, instead of a buying a ready made nut vise, pick up a ceap drill press vise at a yard sale or such and make a new set of elevated jaws for it - presto - a fine nut vise. You can also make your miter box for sawing fret slots and lots of other things. Great luck, I'm a couple years behind you and really looking forward to retirement too!
