Amp on, speaker plugged in! Controls do not matter. Lots of high voltage in there. Play "pocket pool" with one hand while working to prevent killing yourself. It is easy to set the bias on this amp. Mine was 1/2 of spec when I checked it. BIG improvement in how the amp "works" when the bias is set right.
