With regards to all the clamoring about sounding like this guy or that guy: it should be noted that the people being talked about all have a very different, yet distinct tone. Point: Find your own way - doesn't matter what X, Y, or Z is using...what matters is what YOU are using to develop YOUR tone. While being a note for note, close to tone for tone copy player can be a worthwhile endeavor, I don't think one can fully develop an identity until they explore what it is they like independent of trends. This is how the great tone guys got there, by blazing the trail instead of following someone else's...
In the end, use what ever YOU want to use to achieve the sound you have in your head. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
