Work costs? Nope, they're pretty well unkillable. If it works right now it will work forever.
There are a few other SS amps I'd play - I use a Fender M80 myself and like it - but nothing sounds like that JC. Those amps are something special and do something no other SS amp does - have their own very unique and distinctive tone.

Well I am of the belief that nothing lasts forever and components do drift out of spec over a period of time.
