Don't get me wrong, I own and like several Boss pedals. I even think the CE-20 sounds better than the CE-5 and CH-1 combined, but there are so many better sounding chorus pedals on the market.
In regard to what the OP asked in his first post, were I to choose between the CE-5 and the Small Clone, I'd go with the Small Clone or it's smaller version: the Neo Clone (not to be confused with the dreadful sounding Nano Clone). It's only got 1 rate knob and a depth switch, but the Small Clone sounds much warmer and can give you a wider chorus range than the CE-5.

Thanks for the answer regarding old vs new boss pedals. I know the small clone is good at extreme chorus effects how does it do with more subtle jangly type sounds? I have found an old analogue ce-5 for sale in my price range and am very tempted. But I can't get the small clone out of my head lol.
