Modding's fun. It doesn't have to make sense.

It's been my experience that a broadcaster type will do what you want in the bridge...less high end,big fat mids but still unmistakably tele. I find the SD too bright, I think the DMZ Pre-B1 will rock your boat. On the upper end any of the usual suspects can nail that sound. I don't mind putting high $ p'ups in a Squier, I can always move them to the next guitar. Just sayin'.

I'm one of the guys that thinks a full sized neck HB is too much. Low wind P90 and minis work well, you know what that sounds like. But you're trying to avoid the Gibson thing, right? Here's a big surprise I got with my CV recently. I tried an HS Filtertron and sure enough it sounded great clean to slightly overdriven, matched the bridge quite well, and still sounded like a tele albeit with more sparkle and balls. Just as I had hoped and expected. The surprise was how well it worked with extreme OD. Raunchy and agressive, all the attitude of a pissed off high output ceramic and still clear as a bell and musical. Without a hint of Gibbyness. Might be right up your alley? At $50 delivered it's a gamble I'm glad I took.
