Guitar Amp Control Switch Operator

Was there ever a time in amp history when guitar players were not allowed to operate their amp controls & switches? Well it was exactly like that with elevators back when elevators had manual controls.

Maybe with very old amps a control operator would operate the "Standby Switch." Of course being a highly trained professional he/she would have known how to operate the thing. When amp control operators disappeared all their valuable knowledge disappeared with them. Now nobody remembers the true function of the Standby Switch. Some common guesses:

  • Power tube red glow cooler
  • Mojo pump
  • Panic attack switch
  • Amp fire extinguisher button
  • Cathode stripper / unstripper
  • Venue free drinks request
  • ---> Make-up your own reason...
