The plan was to cut miters and fit the pieces together tightly. After gluing them directly to the back, having some slippage and irregular ends, I thought I might drill between them and put in a post, like a keyway. That may or may not happen. I'll fill the gaps with something though....the gears are continually turning as this thing evolves. If I end up putting a layer of vertical sticks on the outside as a veneer, none of that would be seen.
