I use an MXR Micro amp. It is clean, simple, I like the way it looks, takes up very little space and it works great in the upper register. I play mostly cleanish, and a big part of my soundis cranking a Fender tube amp, then backing off on the volume to get that clean sparkle with a good chunk of grit. To ensure the volume and balls are still there as well, I put the Micro Amp into the chain to kep the guitar signal and other effects healthy and in line. Just a hair of high end gets in there.
I also use the DOD Classic Fuzz fpr the same reason, though that adds more low end and goes last in the chain. I turn up the volume and treble all the way, and back off the fuzz to almost zero. The pedal is naturally very bassy, so having the tone all the way up still gives me low end crunch. I use a Fish n Chips EQ for the mid range "clean boost". Three pedals for three different clean boost applications that can be done on the fly and mix and match together well for a varied amount of OD, boost, and swagger.
Total for all three is under $100 used.
