My youngest kid was 11 or 12 when she watched her grandmother (my Mum) take her last breath. They adored each other and my kid has always treasured being able to comfort her grandmother during her last moments. The other grandchildren have wished they could have been there too, though they all did get to say goodbye and express their love. If children are prepared, it can be a good thing. I don't know how ready most kids are, but mine had experienced other family funerals and knew Mum was going soon.
