IMO what sets him apart from SO many other guys - that may have 'more' actual technique than him - is that his articulation between his pick and fingers is THE SAME - seamless. As in I can't tell by just 'listening' that it's hybrid technique. Also, his harmonic sense is fairly modern and frankly better than the majority of those cats (though the steel players are usually pretty 'advanced' harmonically). That's the best 'jazz' I've heard him play.

Yes...I agree. Mason's right hand is like a machine .... the relationships keep close proximity ... fit to the strings..
