I just changed the tone circuit on my SX tele to a socalled greasebucket circuit
(the original.. not the modded one).
It works and actually has provided a much more useful tone control I think. I also reversed the metal plate so that I have the tone knob closer to my hand when playing. This required some wires to be resoldered and extended etc.
BUT...... After I did it there is a problem. When I'm not touching the guitar it makes a noise. The noise is there all the time but for some reason it's louder when the volume isn't at max. When I touch ANY metal on the guitar it makes a scratchy sound and then the noise stops until I let go again.
I think it's a grounding issue of some sort. I'm pretty sure that I wired everything correctly and checked it many times, so my guess is that it's a cold solder or a bad wire (I used whatever I had around).
Has anyone tried something similar or does anyone have any idea what the problem could be and how to fix it?
Here is a (bad) drawing of the circuit before and after the change. And a photo of the guitar..
