Why drag it out if you don't have to?
If you are relatively young and carefree, you almost owe it to yourself to delve into things intensely, as you'll have a more difficult time trying to do that when you get older and have more demands on your time.
I just saw that you are 14. This is the perfect time to attack this problem. Get it over with so that you can reap the rewards of knowing the fingerboard.

I was 14 (or 15?) when I learned where
ALL my notes were.
Learning it relatively young helped in more ways than I can possibly even fathom.
