What a gent

Here's a pic of Barney playing my 1976 Guild Artist Award at a seminar he did in the UK in 1978. It's never sounded as good again.

I was looking through my notes of that weekend and the range of stuff he covered was amazing: setting goals, keeping healthy, who to hang out with, how he improvised, millions of little tips and exercises. The stand out moment for me was when he invited someone to scat sing a few bars of 'complicated' stuff straight out their heads.

He played it right back at them, then played it back again in two, then three, then four part harmonies, then mixed them all up into majors and minors with weird and wacky variations. He was having a ball and was bursting with music.

A joy to be with and experience. Lucky lucky me.
