Most, if not all, of those tiny mics on the wireless bodypack transmitters are condensers and require (typically) a 5-volt feed to function. If you have wired in the 1/4" plug w/o taking this into consideration, that could easily explain the noises you are experiencing.
Please understand why this was a free mic, and consider abandoning this path.
