Here comes my question:
There's an MP3 of the "Linus and Lucy Medley" which is a lot of fun and sounds, of course, like the Charlie Brown/Peanuts theme.
Further down the page, there's a "Linus and Lucy" video from a TV taping which sounds NOTHING like the other tune,

You're right, it's not "Linus & Lucy."

it's a gorgeous slow tune with incredible tone. I think this must be a mistake.
|
Yes, that was most definitely a mistake – Danny always tried to make his tone as
annoying and
grating as possible. Hee. ;-) Sorry, I couldn't help myself, there are comments that come up here a lot regarding Danny's tone – and understandably so – so it's nice to see a clip that shows off another side of him... ;-) Oh, and notice how "bright and spikey" those Joe Barden pickups are, too. =:-O Hee. ;-)

Can anyone name the slow tune (or state with confidence that it is really related to the other mp3)? I'd like to buy whatever CD it came from.

Yes, the tune is called
"One for Lenny", and it's an original that Danny wrote in honor of Lenny Breau. You can find a version of it on the "Untouchable" CD – although it's not the same as the video clip. I'm not aware that the audio (from that video) is on
any commercially available CDs. :-\
Anyway, thanks for bringing it up. It's a GREAT clip, and I'd highly recommend it to any guitarist who doesn't "get" Danny Gatton. :-) As I said, it's nice to see some video that showcases another facet of his playing – although truthfully, he had SO much depth as a musician that you often got the feeling after watching him play for several hours that you had STILL just scratched the surface of his amazing abilities. =:-O (Not that I'm a FAN, or anything... Hee.) ;-) CS
