Dwight/Gattis Sound
I'm still wearing the CD out since the mid-June release. I also saw the concert in Pozo, CA pre-release. The show was excellent. Gattis has a lot of ability. He does his own thing but does a good job copping the Pete licks on the requests...just not as polished (yet) but very agressive and talented. Over-Bends? Don't think so. If you got it, use it where appropriate. If you're trying to get the Mooney/Bakersfield flavor then it's all about the pedals. I'm not familiar enough with baritone guitars but I think they use them on some of the album cuts...sounds like a bass tele...cool.
The hottest part of the band though has to be the bass/drum team. I didn't catch the names but apparently the Johnny Cash (former) road crew...what a groove. I was in Hick Heaven. Lots of stand-up bass. The show was great and the album is also...a bit different that the earlier stuff but it's growth in a good direction.
