Yes, a Duncan and Fender can co-exist, but you will probably have to change the wiring as they may be out of phase with each other.

As others have said, a strat pup in the neck can be a good thing. The best of both worlds. I've used a Duncan 1/4 lb strat neck pup and a Duncan alnico strat pup before to great effect. However, if you have grown accustomed to the tele neck sound, you can kiss it bye-bye.

A nice compromise is the Dimarzio Twang King. It still has that wonderful ( I love the tone of a good tele neck pup myself ) tele tone, but goes a bit further into strat territory. Just a nice, fat, bluesy sounding pickup. At half the price of an H/D mini strat, a very good value imho. Ditto for the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage neck pup.
