The main body is going to be cut from a one-piece swamp ash blank so no gluing required there. I guess at some point I need to glue the maple cap on it but at this stage I am unsure exactly when to do that.

I am pretty sure that I am not going to use a pickguard. What I am less sure about is whether or not to have a control plate. I guess this will affect if the control cavity is routed from the front or the back, which will then affect when it makes most sense to glue the cap to the body blank.

I want the flamed top (which I think will be stained blue) and its accompanying binding, to take centre stage on the finished guitar. In that respect I am leaning towards no control plate. However I have seen several photos of teles like this and I am often concerned that the controls look a bit lost, like they are floating in the middle of nowhere.

Once the pickups arrive in the post (hopefully tomorrow) I guess I can start laying parts out on the wood and get a better idea of how it might look.
