I'm surprised nobody else has tried it. If you're familiar with Scott's 54 Specials, I believe the chromotone is just the neck version with a thin nickel silver chrome cover. So, if you need to have a chrome cover, the chromotone is awsome and has a bit more volume, punch, clarity, and bandwidth compared to normal tele neck pups. I have one and tried to get along with chrome cover because it looked cool. In the end, I needed a more raw and less jazzy tone, so I pulled off the cover and now essentially have a 54 special with exposed pole pieces. Scott shrink-wraps his coils in plastic, so there was no potential for damage. I wish Scott still offered the normal 54 spcial with the black plastic cover, but he'll be the first to tell you that he made the chromotone mostly out of public demand for a chrome-covered neck pup.
