they are in competition in the quality of the guitar...

i.e.

do i want to spend $1000 for a guitar that may or may not be much better (or the even possibly the same) quality than another guitar, of equal quality, that i can buy for $300???

THIS IS THE COMPETITION.

If the profit margin for Squier and CS are the same, I doubt FMIC cares which you buy. I think that the profit margin for CS is greater than that of Squiers. I'm curious as to what FMIC's incentive would be to have you buy a guitar of greater quality for less money, essentially wiping out the guitars that they can charge more for.

As divisions of the same company, I doubt FMIC execs see the two as any sort of competition.
